Superstocks on a roll

27/08/2016 20:36

With the race past the halfway point and at least five pit stops so far, the top Superstock teams have surged into the top 15, with Team 3Art Yam’Avenue leading the way.

The Superstock teams, which do not benefit from the quick-release wheel change system, are putting on a fantastic performance at Oschersleben even as the front-running factory-backed teams set an infernal pace. Team 3Art Yam’Avenue got up to 4th place one hour into the race and is still leading the Superstock pack, in the same lap as Tati Team Beaujolais Racing, Starteam Pam Racing, AM Moto Racing Compétition and Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences: all of them are currently in the top 12. Meanwhile, Junior Team Le Mans Sud Suzuki has powered its way back up to 15th place after some electrical issues, ahead of Ecurie ChronoSport.

Völpker NRT48 Schubert Motors, the erstwhile world standings topper and favourite to win at Oschersleben, has withdrawn as a result of mechanical issues and a crash.

At this stage of the race, Team 3Art Yam’Avenue looks set to pick up the Superstock World Cup.

Tension is running high as the final 10-day countdown to the 24 Heures Motos begins. 60 teams will be in Le Mans for the second round of the 2017-2018 FIM EWC. The stakes are high, as the first team past the finish line on Sunday 22 April stands to collect up to 60 points.

YART Yamaha wound up the 24 Heures Motos tests on a very encouraging note. The factory-backed Austrian team was the only one to complete a lap of the Bugatti circuit in under 1’37.

F.C.C. TSR Honda France dominated the first day of pre-testing for the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans. Despite the rain, 50 of the 60 teams entered for the second round of the FIM EWC were on the Bugatti circuit.

With five constructors and three tyre manufacturers running neck and neck, the outcome of the 24 Heures Motos is anyone’s guess. A look at the favourites to win the 41st edition at Le Mans on 21 and 22 April.

With four months to go for the Suzuka 8 Hours, the Japanese factory teams are already gearing up for the action. Following Honda’s announcement that official team HRC is returning to Suzuka, Kawasaki has revealed that Jonathan Rea will be back with Team Green.
