EWC Dunlop Independent Trophy: Season 2

Jointly organized by Eurosport Events, Dunlop and the promoters of the various FIM EWC races, the EWC Dunlop Independent Trophy is open to private teams without the backing of a manufacturer. A total amount of €145,000 in prize money will be awarded over the upcoming season’s six races. There will be an additional €185,000 reward for the 15 private teams under contract to compete throughout the season.

Championship promoter Eurosport Events, Dunlop and the organizers of the various FIM EWC 2016/2017 races are renewing the EWC Dunlop Independent Trophy to support privateers – the beating heart of Endurance.

The trophy is open to all private teams competing in one or several races over the season. The only condition is that these teams use tyre specifications designated and supplied by Dunlop Motors for each race.

Prize money will be paid out to the top teams competing for the Dunlop Independent Trophy. Purses go to the 15 best teams in the 24-hour races, and to the 10 best teams in the other races.

At the Bol d’Or, the opening race of the season on 17 and 18 September, the top 15 teams competing for the EWC Dunlop Independent Trophy will receive €30,000 in total. The winner gets €5,000, the runner-up €4,200 and the second runner-up €3,700, with up to €700 in prize money awarded to the 11th to 15th teams past the finish line.
In 2016, the first EWC Dunlop Independent Trophy provided backing to 23 private teams in the course of the season’s various races.

Alongside the EWC Dunlop Independent Trophy, Eurosport Events is providing backing to 15 privateers (dubbed ‘independent teams under contract’) who will be competing throughout the 2016-2017 season. A total amount of €150,000 is up for grabs, split between a guaranteed purse and result-based bonuses, plus €35,000 worth of logistics support for private teams wishing to compete in the EWC final at Suzuka.

In all, Eurosport Events, Dunlop and race promoters will be investing a total of €330,000 over the 2016-2017 season to support privateers competing in the endurance world championship.

YART Yamaha wound up the 24 Heures Motos tests on a very encouraging note. The factory-backed Austrian team was the only one to complete a lap of the Bugatti circuit in under 1’37.

F.C.C. TSR Honda France dominated the first day of pre-testing for the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans. Despite the rain, 50 of the 60 teams entered for the second round of the FIM EWC were on the Bugatti circuit.

With five constructors and three tyre manufacturers running neck and neck, the outcome of the 24 Heures Motos is anyone’s guess. A look at the favourites to win the 41st edition at Le Mans on 21 and 22 April.

With four months to go for the Suzuka 8 Hours, the Japanese factory teams are already gearing up for the action. Following Honda’s announcement that official team HRC is returning to Suzuka, Kawasaki has revealed that Jonathan Rea will be back with Team Green.
